CGPACS 2024 Graduate Student Fellowship Announcement

The Center for Global Peace and Conflict Studies at UCI is pleased to offer grants to graduate students for research projects relevant to the Center’s mission and interests on Peace and Conflict. Students may apply for up to $3,000 for research purposes, including travel and writing.

This year the best proposal from the School of Social Ecology will receive the John M. Whiteley fellowship. The fellowship is named after Professor Whiteley who was one of the founders of CGPACS and has contributed over the years immensely to the growth and sustainability of the Center.

Similarly, the best proposal from the School of Humanities will receive the Keith Nelson fellowship. The fellowship is named after Professor Keith Nelson who was a member of the History department and a founder and former director of CGPACS.

The mission of CGPACS is to promote research and interdisciplinary interactions on Peace and Conflict and the proposed project must indicate its relevance to this mission. All other things being equal, we will give priority to students who regularly participate in Center activities and colloquiums. Each grant recipient will be expected to present results of their research at either the graduate student conference or the CGPACS lunch talks during the 2024-25 academic year.

To apply, please send the following information to Lina Lopez (lina.lopez@uci.edu):
  • Your name, department, year you entered your PhD program, and whether you have advanced to candidacy.
  • Title, summary, and description of your project (not to exceed 750 words).
  • A short proposed budget that describes the activities to be supported by CGPACS.
  • A list of CGPACS activities that you participated in over the past year.
  • Have a faculty letter of support in pdf sent to lina.lopez@uci.edu as well.
